Yahoo Inc. on Thursday unveiled a revamp of its email service and upgrades to its search engine.
Sunnyvale-based Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) Chief Product Officer Blake Irving said during an event at the company’s headquarters that Yahoo’s three-year vision includes having the world’s largest digital media content and communications business.
A revamped Yahoo Mail site is faster and limits spam better, the company said, and users searching the Web can get broadened information on the first page of results without leaving the Yahoo site.
The company is also planning ways to better integrate social networking, such as Palo Alto-based Facebook Inc.
Yahoo Search — which is powered by Microsoft Corp.’s Bing engine — has 17 percent of the U.S. market share, according to comScore Inc. That brings it to second place behind Mountain View-based Google Inc.
